Attempting commissions while having a parttime job: Yay or nay?

Posted by blackwind677 - October 13th, 2024

Been thinking about getting into commissioning before I even got a job. Nowadays I feel more comfortable about my art now than 4 years ago.

Not exactly hurtin' for cash, but I could be doing something on the side that I still like and getting better at it. And I'm aware of some commissioning dos and don'ts.

I'm just asking if it's worth it. I don't have any artist friends to ask this straight up.

Wouldn’t hurt to think about it. Just make sure it’s a reasonable price first. And that you have enough time to make them.

Late response, but: what do you suggest, say a full body sketch, should cost?
I like to think I have enough time. Usually half a day of free time. I do closing shifts.

@blackwind677 Looking at your work, for a full body sketch, I’d say $10-15, maybe 20 depending on how you feel your art is worth. I’m not an expert in pricing them, but that’s what I think.
